The DeWalt House Bed and Breakfast
The DeWalt House, conveniently located in the beautiful downtown area of
Historic Newberry, South Carolina, was originally built in 1832 by Daniel DeWalt.
His grandson, Dr. O. B. Mayer II enlarged the house in 1906 and made it into the
grand home seen today. The house fell on hard times after it suffered severe damage in the 'Tornado
of 1984' and was very close to being condemned. Of interest, the large home once
faced Main Street and was literally turned to face Walnut Street in 1996. Shortly thereafter, a complete
renovation was started which has spanned the last seven years. It now has all new
infrastructure complete with modern conveniences. Although the renovations were
extensive, great care was taken to preserve its historic integrity. The home is
also graced with many antiques and beautiful period window treatments.
The DeWalt House is considered somewhat of a landmark in Newberry and many
residents have cheered on the renovations. Some locals have interesting stories to tell about the house
and the prominent family who lived here for five generations.
We would love to welcome you into our home. Relax in one of our spacious
guest rooms, all of which are

In 1996, Newberry was listed in Crampton’s The 100 Best Small
Towns in America and, in 2001, Newberry was recognized by Sweitzer
& Fields as one of The 50 Best Small Southern Towns.
